Small Things, Great Love
Birth Services

Welcome! I provide in-person postpartum and bereavement doula services in the Greater Hickory, NC area as well as virtual consultations across the US with the goal of making the beautiful, challenging, and transformative postpartum period, regardless of the outcome of the birth, a memory that you will hold close for the rest of your life. I believe that even the smallest, mundane actions can be sacred and meaningful when they are done with thoughtfulness and affection. Every fresh diaper, scrubbed bottle, and sleepless minute is a remarkable declaration of love.

This phase of life is celebrated in hundreds of different ways across the globe, but many parents feel the pressure to rush through it and return to "normalcy" as soon as possible. It can feel even countercultural to reject productivity as an ideal and instead intentionally set aside time for peace and healing. I am here to nurture your family and help you create space in which you can replenish your body, cultivate an atmosphere of joy, and bond with the new member of your family.

About Me

Hello, my name is Sarah Herbein! I've lived in 5 states, but have spent about half my life in Western North Carolina and am currently living near Morganton, NC. I graduated from the College of Charleston with a Spanish degree and enjoy knitting, gardening, reading, and cooking. My two children were born 8 and 5 weeks early, and moving through those experiences showed me the importance of community and connection during the postpartum period. I am passionate about exploring the intersection of traditional and modern approaches, and I aim to care for people as an integrated whole. I am certified as a Postpartum Doula through Embodied Doula Trainings, and I am a certified PAILAdvocate (Pregnancy and Infant Loss).

Reviews from previous clients...

Sarah Herbein was an amazing asset during a life changing event. She was flexible with her time, always willing to listen, and provided me with valuable information to help me throughout the process. From taking some night shifts so that I could get some much needed sleep to helping me with bottles and laundry, Sarah was by my side when I needed her. She helped with teaching me proper ways to use a carrier, supported me throughout my breastfeeding journey (and then on my formula journey!) and provided me with a scar treatment to help with my cesarean scar. I highly recommend Sarah as a postpartum doula.
