Birth Combs for Labor Pain Relief

Here's the mail, it never fails, it makes me want to wag my tail! I've been working on stocking my birth bag, so I've been getting some fun goodies in my mailbox.
The most recent addition to my supplies is this lovely birth comb! These are used during labor to reduce the perception of pain by using Gate Control Theory to our advantage, just like a TENS machine or counter pressure. If you imagine the nerves having gates that either let through or restrict input, we are using these introduced sensations to close the gates on the labor pain. The brain isn't very good at processing multiple feelings at once, so we can distract it a bit. Just like when we stub our toe and then squeeze or rub it to relieve the pain, we can override the information being sent to our brain.
So how exactly are they used? All you do is hold the comb in your hand with the tines towards your palm, and squeeze! Many people like this as a comfort measure as it has no side effects for baby, the duration/intensity are within their control, and it's inexpensive (or free if you use mine!).
This isn't a sponsored post, and I bought this with my own money, but I've linked her page below as I am impressed with the quality. She also included a sample of handmade Chai-scented soap and it smells delicious!
